April: O o Milano

A little while ago I had to go to Milan. This was already the fourth time I had to go for one of my clients and – in spite of my big fashion heart and traveling soul – I have to admit I basically don’t like Milan…. There’s only one perfect little area but well… that’s it. So this fourth time, and I feel like a big brat for admitting this, I tried to get out of it. (believe me, I even kept postponing buying my ticket, hoping a miracle would pass) No miracles passed so in the end it was just me heading off to Schiphol, my Samsonite business suitcase (yes, we have a super cool light weight travel kit at the office. How cool is that!) and a dozen of GG’s on my laptop, prepared for another boring couple of days.

After arriving in Milan I still had the rest of the afternoon. To work. So of course I immediately headed to 10 Corso Como, a great multi brand concept store. If you are in Milan, you absolutely should go to ‘the golden triangle’ which lies between Via Monte Napoleone, Via Manzoni and Via della Spiga. There is a super small pastry at the end of Via della Spiga where the Caprese tastes like… like… well you have to taste it! While enjoying my sandwich (which was when I knew I had to be a real Digitalista ;)) and thinking this was probably the best moment of this trip, I was staring at this amazingly dressed girl. Red stockings, black over the knee boots, bright yellow jacket, big grey scarf, cool dark grey hat and huge dark sunglasses. So I asked her a stupid question about the location of 10 Corso Como (where I just came from…). We did some small talk and said goodbye. 15 minutes later she passed me again, this time with her friends. I joked ‘third time is a treat!’.

Long story short: in the end I found myself having the time of my life cruising on the back of her friends bike trough Milan. Of course the wines had to do something with it but finally I saw the beauty of the city. And the great fashion of all youngsters over there! It stroke me that many cool girls wore typical colorful Ibiza boots and were dressed as happy as their boots; not at all the Balmain-like black rock-and-roll look or the laid back Scandinavian feel (looks which I have both adopted and love!) all French, Dutch and VS fashionista’s are dressed in. I’m still not convinced if they were ahead of this look or if it hasn’t reached them yet… But it was refreshing! Of course I didn’t bring my camera but I found some inspiring Milan looks online (from the Sartorialist) who made me think back of my Milano-for-hot-fashion-baptism. Within a few weeks I have to go again. Can’t wait!
