Hilfiger Denim Live is a unique music event, which was inaugurated in 2009. The premiering event in Amsterdam kicked off with a finely tuned live indie-rock concert, headlined by The Virgins and The Films, who respectively featured in the Spring and Fall ’09 Hilfiger Denim advertising campaigns. The concert was followed by music from a host of internationally renowned DJs. The event then went on to launch in Berlin, fronted by The Films, followed by Brussels earlier this year. With music lying at the heart of the brand, Tommy Hilfiger has featured many leading artists in its campaigns throughout the years, ranging from David Bowie and Iman to Beyoncé. Over the years he has also sponsored the tours of many rock legends, such as The Rolling Stones and Lenny Kravitz.

Celebrating the long association between Hilfiger Denim and the music world, Tommy Hilfiger launched www.hilfigerdenim.com—the online evolution of Hilfiger Denim, in 2009. The website brings together the distinctive fashion of Hilfiger Denim and the sounds of cutting-edge artists and emerging talent. The website also allows consumers to view the cutting-edge Hilfiger Denim styles while enjoying the music that inspired the designs.

MORE INFORMATION

MATT & KIM
Forced to play their first show by a friend months after picking up their instruments, keyboardist/vocalist Matt Johnson and drummer/vocalist Kim Schifino initially appeared as Matthew and Kimberly in October of 2004. After slightly altering their name they spent the next year playing every chance they could get in their home base of Brooklyn. In 2006 the band released their self-titled debut—which was instantly embraced by critics and fans alike—and stayed on the road, performing at high profile events such as The Siren Music Festival and Lollapalooza. In 2007, Matt & Kim appeared on MTV2 as program hosts, and more recently have performed at the Pitchfork Music Festival, Outside Lands 2009, and at the 25th annual San Diego Street Scene. In September, they won the Breakthrough Video award for their video “Lessons Learned” at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards. Their energy-filled performance also set the tone for the mtvU Woodie Awards show, which aired on MTV, MTV2, and mtvU in December 2009.

MAJOR LAZER
Named after a fictional character, Major Lazer is made up of DJs Diplo and Switch, who were introduced after working with M.I.A.. The duo’s first album, Guns Don’t Kill People… Lazers Do, was released on June 16,

2009. Vocalists such as Santigold, Vybz, Kartel, Ward 21, Busy Signal, Nina Sky, Amanda Blank, Mr. Vegas, Turbulence, Mapei, T.O.K., Prince Zimboo, Leftside and others, contributed to the album as guest vocalists. Last summer, Major Lazer ended a US tour and their album’s first single “Hold the Line” was nominated for an MTV Video Award in the Breakthrough Category. Their music video for “Zumbi” also features comedian Andy Milonakis. Major Lazer performed at the acclaimed Coachella Music Festival in April 2010.

 THE DRUMS
Jonathan Pierce and Jacob Graham met at summer camp. Soon after their meeting they formed an electro pop band called Goat Explosion and toured extensively in North America during their teenage years. The Drums were born in late 2008, and they self recorded and produced around fifteen songs while living in central Florida, and spent the beginning of 2009 saving money to move to New York City. Upon their arrival in New York, The Drums added former Elkland guitarist Adam Kessler and NYC born drummer Connor Hanwick to the line-up. By the end of June 2009, The Drums’ concerts had become a weekly dance party attended religiously by the most critical music fans in New York City. With their “explosive live show,” sound and image, they were soon dubbed “New York’s official coolest new band” by NME, and began receiving national radio play in the UK as well as on college radio in the US. The Drums offer the unlikeliest of hybrids, and stage a clash in their songs between wildly opposing aesthetics and ideas.

KRAAK & SMAAK
Dutch DJ trio, Kraak & Smaak, are considered to be one of Holland’s hottest producer, DJ and live acts. Consisting of Oscar de Jong, Mark Kneppers and Wim Plug, Kraak & Smaak is one of the fastest rising names in the international dance music scene. After dropping their now sought-after 12”s from 2003 onwards, in 2006 they released their debut album Boogie Angst, which led to worldwide support from the funk and electronic community, followed by radio tastemakers like Annie Nightingale and Pete Tong in the UK, and Jason Bentley in LA. In 2008 they released their second album Plastic People, which gave them their worldwide hit “Squeeze Me.” In 2009 they won the European Border Breaker’s Award and presented the Eurosonic festival in Groningen, during a television show hosted by Jools Holland. Kraak & Smaak have also been aided by a string of well-received dance floor remixes for the likes of Maxwell, Jamiroquai, Fedde le Grand, Don Diablo and Junkie XL, to name a few. Their full third album is due for release in Fall 2010.

FRENCH HORN REBELLION (NYC)
Fronted by Robert and David Perlick-Molinari, French Horn Rebellion are two brothers born and bred in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. FHR formed in 2007, when younger brother and accomplished French horn player Robert asked his brother David to rebel with him, and together they embarked on a life-long creative journey. Since the release of their debut single “Up All Night”, FHR have been swept along by a flurry of accolades from radio, press and bloggers alike. Now residing in Brooklyn, New York, the duo released their single “Beaches & Friends” on March 1, 2010. The single, co-written with Brazilian duo Database, friends and recent touring mates of FHR, breaks all expectations. Together they came up with the vocal hooks and synth lines, and from there different version were created.

LE LE
Champagne based trio Le Le is a unique force within the modern day music industry. Their way of creating their own brand of genius is rivaled only by their ability to adapt and bend the rules of music as a whole. “Our collective genius just doesn’t let us restrict ourselves,” says one third of the outfit, Piet Par’A. Comprised of two more individuals making a grand total of three, adds quirky producer at large and all-round musician and magician Rimer London to the mix and vocalist Serge Faberyayo. “We make our own brand of magic genius, called Esperantology. It’s a science within a musical galaxy. We write songs in English, Dutch, German and French, and that’s just so far,” says Serge Faberyayo. Their first EP La Bouche is set to release on October 20, under Magnetron Music.

PARRA SOUNDSYSTEM
Parra Soundsystem is a post punk group consisting of Parra, Mr. Wix, Tom Trago, MC Lyrical Tie and Gee. Their mix-tape was released in December 2009.

DJ ARNOLD
Amsterdam-based DJ Arnold is well known for his DJ sets during the Noodlanding! evenings at Paradiso. He also plays 1-2 times per month in the Crossfader at the Melkweg, next to sets at Ekko, Rotown and the Patronaat. He also writes for magazines such as Oor, Live XS and Music Minded.
