Digitalicious: ‘Moules et frites’ made with love

So we decided to make more posts about food. I don’t think we need to remind you, but we LOVE to eat. And we start to become quite good cooks ourselves while practicing. Who knows, we might become the new Nigella Lawson’s!

We both have our specialties; Digi E is all about the Asian cuisine, and Digi K has French roots, but is into ‘global cooking’. Let’s start with something from our neighbours, Belgium. It’s mussel-season so we crave for ‘Moules et frites’.

Check the recipe after the jump>>>Depending on your amount of guests – 1 or 2 kilos of mussels

-vegetables mix (carrots, celery, onions, parsley)
-bubbly white wine like Riesling or Moesel-wine
-potatoes or you can go get ‘patat’ (fries) at the nearest snackbar

HOW TO:
Clean the mussels in your sink in cold water for a few minutes. Make sure they are all under water. Then rinse them and take out those that don’t close well.
It’s best to have a special mussels casserole with a hollow lid, because you’ll have to shake them up while cooking.

Put the half of the vegetables mix in the casserole, and pour some of the wine over it. Then add the mussels. Cover with the rest of the vegetables and some more wine. Wait until the first boil, take the casserole of the stove and shake a few times. Repeat this proces 2 times again.  This way all the mussels get cooked. After 10 minutes your mussels are ready!

Serve with (homemade) fries, a glass of Riesling and some nice sauces on the side. Bon apetit!
