Paris Fashion Week: Isabel Marant A/W ’12

Needless to say that French designer Isabel Marant‘s designs are high upon our wishlists each season. But more interesting is the fact that the Isabel Marant-label has been so hyped the last few years, that she probably wouldn’t have imagined -back in 1985 when she began her career- that there would be actual waitinglists for her items nowadays. Although her label keeps expanding – a second US store opening on Melrose Avenue in LA is planned for September- Isabel Marant stays grounded: ‘I’m quite anti-consumerist; it’s difficult for me being a designer in an industry I don’t like. When I design a collection I find myself thinking, “Why do we need new clothes?” I never think about the fashion people… They are not my concern.’

The US frontier-girl has inspired her for Autumn-Winter ’12: it is Edwardian lace, western, cavalry coats, frilled mini-skirts, embroideries on blouses, gaucho patterned trousers and cropped suede skinny’s. A mix of New Mexico meets old US, but with some French je-ne-sais-quoi on top.
