Iconic perfumes from the old days get makeovers and reintroductions.
Ivoire was the last fragrance launched by Pierre Balmain himself in 1979 and has a very poetic story at its origin. On an evening in the late seventies, Pierre Balmain crossed paths with a sovereign beauty when she descended the stairs of the Opéra de Paris merely dressed in a pale silk gown and a double row of pearls, her eyes hidden by a wide-brimmed hat. He was so struck by her elegance that he later dedicated the perfume to this mysterious lady.
Though a new image has been created by David Sims for the contemporary version of the Balmain fragrance, the lady still looks intangible.
Olivier Roustaing: “The new Ivoire has a fascinating timelessness. I can see it pleasing both my best female friend and my mother. I like the idea that it expresses a desire to return to the past, while telling an infinitely contemporary story.”
