Guess who will be rolling out the Thalys soon? Monsieur Jean Paul Gaultier himself to open an exposition on his body of work and 35 years jubilee of his label at the Kunsthal in Rotterdam.
The iconic designer has proven to surpass cultural and sexual differences with his (sometimes provocative) vision of the world and his fashion designs. He has dressed famous popstars such as Madonna, Lady Gaga and Kylie Minogue, as well as created movie costumes for which he collaborated with the directors; Pedro Almodóvar, Luc Besson and Peter Greenaway, and he designed creations for many celebrities. Fashion photography is another of his creative outlets. Together with renowned artists and photographers like David LaChapelle, Pierre et Gilles, Richard Avedon, and our national prides Anton Corbijn and Inez & Vinoodh, Gaultier has set a distinct photographic image to visualize his label.
The exhibition is more than a retrospective, but a multi-medial journey through 140 of his original creations; from couture to prêt-à-porter, from the 70’s to the present.
