Last year I had an amazing experience at Kaliyoga in Spain, and the wellness yoga retreat has just opened its newest location in Puglia, Italy.
Kaliyoga was founded 12 years ago – first in Spain, then France, and now in southern Italy. The newest location offers seven-night yoga retreats from April to October, at beautiful restored dry-stone ‘Trulli’ cottages. These limestone dwellings, which are typical to southern Italy, are Unesco Worldwide Heritage sites. They are remarkable examples of prehistoric building techniques still used in this region, with conical roofs and various ancient symbols depicted on them. Making them even more amazing is the fact they are made using no cement.
The Kaliyoga Puglia retreat accommodates up to 16 people andincludes twice daily yoga and meditation sessions; delicious Italian vegetarian cuisine; top holistic therapies; and afternoon bicycle rides and walks through quiet country lanes.
Guests can visit ancient olive mills, wine-taste at local vineyards, walk along Roman aqueducts and ride through the woods at a Murgese horse ranch. The gorgeous baroque towns of Martina Franca and Locorotondo are only 10 minutes away and the lovely beaches of the Ionian and Adriatic coasts are only 25 minutes away.
Yoga with Tashidawa, Kaliyoga’s renowned teacher, invites you to explore the primary series of Ashtanga yoga and is modified to suit all levels. Available on demand are a range of holistic treatments such as Thai yoga massage, Reflexology, Ayurvedic Massage, Indian Head Massage, Hot Stone Massage, Lymphatic Drainage and Equine Therapy.
In between activities, guests can snooze in a hammock, swim in the large pool, or melt in the Jacuzzi (which was my favourite pastime during my retreat in Spain last year!)
