So deliciously Sophie: Prawn & Chicken Dim Sum

As I told you before: I love Asian food. My boyfriend and I often treat ourselves to dim sum for lunch at our favorite local Chinese restaurant. Enjoying all these different delicious bites is one of my favorite things to do on a lazy weekend day.

I started wondering if I could make these wonderful snacks myself and it turned out to be quite easy. Making them might actually become one of my new favorite ways to spend my weekends…

One thing: you need a steamer to make this dish. I use a traditional bamboo one (which are not that expensive and can be bought at every oriental supermarket). Using a steamer is easy: just place it above a pan with boiling water and let the hot steam do its work.

Ingredients (32 pieces ):

32 dim sum wrappers (available at oriental supermarkets)

Prawn dim sum:
150 gr prawns
1/2 egg (use the other half for the chicken dim sum)
1 teaspoon of sesame oil
1 teaspoon of salt soy sauce (I always use Kikkoman)
2 cm of ginger (sliced in thin sticks)
1 garlic clove (finely chopped)
2 spring onions (chopped)
2 tablespoons of sliced bamboo sprouts

Chicken dim sum:
1 chicken breast
1/2 egg
1 teaspoon of sesame oil
1 teaspoon of salt soy sauce
2 cm of sliced ginger
1 garlic clove (finely chopped)
2 spring onions (chopped)
1/2 red chili (chopped)
2 tablespoons of sliced coriander

Chili sauce and soy sauce for dipping

1. Place all the ingredients for the prawn dim sum in a food processor. Mix them into a paste. Set it aside in a bowl.
2. Do the same with the ingredients for the chicken dim sum.
3. Lay out the dim sum wrappers on your working surface.
4. Place about two teaspoons of the filling into the centre of a wrapper (16 with chicken filling & 16 with prawn filling).
5. Moisten the edges with a little water then press together to seal.
(You can do this in every shape you like. It doesn’t matter if the dim sum isn’t completely sealed, because we’re steaming them.)
6. Place your dim sum into a steamer and cook for 10 minutes.
